Rankings
What is GetToolRank?
GetToolRank publishes ranked shortlists of AI tools for 10 use cases (AI Coding Agents & IDEs, Vibe Coding & AI App Builders, AI Agents (General & Computer-Use), Chat Assistants, Image Generation, Video Generation, Voice & Text-to-Speech, Game Dev, Research, Automation & Agent Builders). Every tool is scored out of 100 on a published six-part rubric. The site also has a daily feed of new AI releases, an AI news hub, a weekly trending page, an AI launch calendar, vibe coding tips and a free Friday newsletter.
How are the rankings calculated?
Each tool gets a 1-10 score on six criteria: Output quality & capability (30%), Ease of use & time to first result (20%), Value & pricing clarity (15%), Momentum & reliability (15%), Openness & integration (10%), Trust, licensing & safety (10%). The GetToolRank Score is the weighted total, out of 100. We define the criteria ourselves, and there are no community votes.
Are the scores based on hands-on testing?
Not yet. Current scores come from desk research: dated independent reviews, public benchmarks and vendor pages. Tested scores will replace desk scores over time and will carry a "Tested" label. Facts we could not confirm are labeled "partially verified".
How often are the rankings updated?
We re-review each category at least every 60 days, and right away when a major model or product ships or shuts down. Rankings were last reviewed 2026-10-16. The new releases feed and the news hub are updated daily.
How do you choose which tools get ranked?
For each use case we research the established tools from independent reviews, benchmarks and vendor pages, score them on the rubric and list the top five. Other tools we looked at are listed under "Also considered" on each category page. Brand-new launches go to the new releases feed first and are not scored until we review them against the rubric.
What does it mean when two tools are tied?
Scores are shown as whole numbers. Tools with the same score are tied and share a rank, shown as "T-1", "T-2" and so on. A gap of a point or two is small, so pick the one whose strengths match what you need.
Choosing a tool
How should I choose an AI tool?
Start with the use case, not the brand: open the category that matches your job, then compare the score breakdowns on the criteria you care about most (for example value and pricing if you are on a budget, or openness if you need an API or export). Try the free tier or trial first, and confirm current prices on the vendor's site, because prices change often.

Money & independence
Is GetToolRank free?
Yes. Every page is free to read and needs no account, and the Friday newsletter is free.
Does GetToolRank use affiliate links?
GetToolRank makes money from affiliate links, clearly labeled featured listings and newsletter sponsorships. Some "Visit site" links go through /go/ redirects; when one is an affiliate link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and the link carries rel="sponsored". Today every /go/ link points to the tool's plain official URL.
Do affiliate deals or sponsors affect the rankings?
No. Affiliate status never affects a score or rank: scores come from the rubric alone and affiliate data is stored separately. Featured or sponsored placements are always labeled "Sponsored" and never appear inside a ranked list.
Is AI used to make GetToolRank?
Yes, and we disclose it. Rankings are researched and written with AI assistance (Grok Bot, an AI assistant made by SpaceX) and checked against vendor pages and published sources. No human editor currently reviews each ranking; founder and publisher Dan Smedstad oversees the site. Grok and Cursor, which we rank, are both owned by SpaceX, so both get the same rubric as every other tool and the relationship is disclosed on their pages.
News, trending & newsletter
What is in the GetToolRank newsletter, and when does it go out?
One short email every Friday: the pick of the week, new AI tools worth your time, the week's biggest AI news, what is trending on GitHub and X, upcoming AI launches and events, a 5-minute vibe coding tip, and what changed in tools you already use. It is free, and every past issue is archived on the site.
How do you choose and check AI news?
Each news item links its sources, preferring the company's own announcement, blog or docs. We check every fact, date and number against the page we link and attribute benchmark or performance claims to whoever made them. If something cannot be confirmed, we leave it out.
How is the trending page put together?
Once a week we take the fastest-rising AI repositories from GitHub's weekly trending list (star counts are the "stars this week" figure GitHub shows on that day) and the AI conversations getting attention on X. We skip spam, impersonation, suspicious star spikes and anything we have already covered, and we do not repeat numbers from AI-written X summaries.
What goes on the Coming soon calendar?
Only AI launches, betas, price changes, shutdown dates and events, each with a date and a source link. Items are officially announced or credibly reported; we skip rumors. Once a date passes, the item moves to "Recently happened".
How do new AI releases get onto the site?
A daily, AI-assisted pipeline collects candidates from Product Hunt and GitHub (new AI repositories gaining stars, plus new versions of tools we rank). Each published item is written from the project's own README, release notes or launch page. A listing is not a ranking or an endorsement.
Contact
How do I submit a tool?
There is no submission form yet; you can suggest a tool through the contact page (/contact/). Also, our daily feed scans Product Hunt launches and new AI repositories on GitHub, so launching there is the best way to get on our radar. Any paid featured listing is labeled "Sponsored" and never appears inside a ranked list.
How do I report a wrong price or fact?
Corrections are welcome: outdated prices, renamed products and wrong facts. Use the contact page (/contact/). Every tool page lists the sources we used, so you can check them yourself in the meantime.
Can AI assistants and search engines use GetToolRank?
Yes. Search and AI crawlers are allowed in robots.txt, and we publish machine-readable summaries at /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt, plus RSS feeds for news and new releases.
